Expenses for family road trips can add up quick! Find out my #1 tip for How to Save Money on Your Next Road Trip Before You Even Hit the Road...
This post was created in partnership with Kroger. As always, all opinions & thoughts expressed below are 100% my own.
The end of the school year & the beginning of summertime always means one thing for my kids & I- it is the official start of road trip season in our home. Whether we are driving just an hour or two to spend the day hiking or embarking on a 6+ hour drive to a cabin in the Tennessee mountains, we are always game for a good family road trip.
But when you factor in gas, stops for snacks, road tolls (ugh- am I right?), the expenses for those family road trips can start adding up pretty quick. That is why our local Kroger store has now become our first official stop on our road trips before we even hit the road.
I have always loved shopping at Kroger for their fuel points program, but the rewards are even bigger & better this summer! :) From now until July 29th, you can rack up double the fuel points when you download the digital coupon and shop at your local Kroger store on Fridays, Saturdays, & Sundays. That means you can earn up to $1 off a gallon of fuel for your next road trip even faster! (Some exclusions apply. See website for fuel program terms and conditions.)
But before we fuel up the car, we head into our Kroger store to stock up on our road trip snacking essentials. (Tip: Purchase the snacks & drinks first, then get your gas. You can earn even more fuel points before hitting the pump! ;) )
I let the kiddos pick out some of their favorites- Jack Links Bagged Jerky for my son, Kroger brand Mini Peanut Butter Filled Pretzels for my daughter. I grab a few packets of my favorite Simple Truth nuts. And we all three agree on the Reese's. I toss a packet of Kleenex Wet Wipes into the mix because we all know that messes are inevitable when it comes to road trip snacking. ;)
It not only saves us money when we stock up on our favorite snacks at Kroger before we hit the road, but it also saves us time too. We can avoid the multiple stops along the way at a gas station or the snack machine at a rest area because one of the kiddos is hungry yet again.
We always try to plan in a few fun stops on our road trips like this Virginia Welcome Center. All of Virginia's welcome centers have a fun LOVE sculpture that is perfect for snapping a few photos with. We take one every time we go through Virginia. :) What are some fun stops that you have planned into a road trip?
Where will your next road trip take you? :)
Download the digital coupon just one time, then earn double fuel points when you shop on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at your local Kroger store now through July 29th! Some exclusions apply. See website for fuel program terms and conditions.
