While I definitely look forward to the kiddos' summer break each year, it also means that I have to be more creative with sneaking in little moments of "me time" each week. During the school year, I get at least 6 hours of full blown "me time" at least four days a week. But summers get trickier with my youngest being at home with me 24/7 every day but one day out of the week.

Giving up my "me time" during the summer months is definitely not an option. We all need to create a little time for ourselves each week to get re-centered, focused, & motivated. It's essential to my sanity and to my role as a mother, wife, homemaker, and full time food & travel blogger that also happens to work at home. It can be difficult to "get away" and recharge when you are always "clocked in" mentally.

So how do I find quality "me time" during the non-stop busyness of the summer months? It doesn't have to be elaborate or time consuming or require hiring a sitter. I keep it easy with these 3 simple steps...

It is easy to create quality time for yourself with these 3 Simple Steps for Creating Summer "Me Time".

1. Create your "Me Time" space.
For me, that is a cozy little spot on my back deck where I can kick back and relax while keeping an eye on my youngest as she plays at the same time. You have to set the stage for your quick moments of relaxation. I pull up my comfiest deck chair and even bring out a bright & colorful cloth for my side table. I grab my favorite succulent, an entertaining magazine I can get lost in, and refreshing & fruity drink.

A refreshing combination of fresh peach puree, iced green tea, & a splash of club soda, this Fresh Peach Green Tea Spritzer is perfect for relaxing with on a summer afternoon.

2. Grab your favorite magazine.
I typically browse the latest issues of my favorite magazines- like PEOPLE, Real Simple, or Southern Living- while in the checkout line at my local Kroger, & grab one or two that catch my eye to bring home. Since I have been obsessed with Princess Di & the royal family since I was a little girl, I had to snag the PEOPLE Princess Diana: Twenty Years Later issue that hit the shelves last week. I absolutely couldn't wait to get home, create my little space for some summer "me time", and dig into it.

3. Have a refreshing drink in hand.
My moments of summer "me time" are not complete without having a cold beverage nearby. Sometimes I go with a glass of cucumber-mint infused iced water or a flavored green tea like this recipe for a Fresh Peach Green Tea Spritzer that I am sharing with you all today. This bubbly drink is actually inspired by what is widely rumored to be one of Princess Diana's favorite cocktails- a peach bellini. Since I thought it might be frowned upon to kick back a few bellinis in the middle of the afternoon, I created this tasty green tea spritzer instead. ;)

A refreshing combination of fresh peach puree, iced green tea, & a splash of club soda, I would like to think that Princess Di would approve of my Fresh Peach Green Tea Spritzer.

Fresh Peach Green Tea Spritzer
by Frugal Foodie Mama
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: None
Ingredients (Serves 2)
  • 1 tbsp honey (or sweetener of choice)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 peach, pitted & chopped
  • 16 oz of brewed & chilled green tea
  • Club soda
Instructions
Add the chopped peach, honey, & 1/4 cup of water to your blender or food processor. Blend or process until smooth. Pour the peach puree through a fine mesh metal strainer into a small bowl or glass. Using the back of a spoon, press the puree through the strainer until only the solids (skins) remain. Discard the solids.

To make the spritzer
Fill 2 glasses with ice. Evenly divide the peach puree and green iced tea between both glasses. Top with club soda, & then give a quick stir. Garnish with a fresh peach slice, if desired.
Relax & enjoy!

** If you only need one drink, save the leftover green tea & peach puree covered in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Make yourself a second spritzer the next day. :)
