Being predominantly a food blogger, I do not get very many opportunities to tell my readers about the furrier member of our family. So let me introduce you all to Charlie today...
Charlie became a part of our family over 5 years ago. Looking at this spunky Papillon who runs circles in our yard at break neck speeds and gets excited for every new visitor to the house, you would never in a million years guess his history...
Charlie was rescued from a puppy mill a few months before he joined our family. I traveled south of Cincinnati to visit a rescue shelter for Shiba Inus, and left with a very shy butterfly-eared pup instead. All the Shiba Inus were anxious to see me, jumping up on me, eager to be pet... and little Charlie was cowering in a corner, seemingly too afraid to even move.
That dog needed to be rescued.
That dog needed a loving home.
And that dog was the one who came home with me that day...
For those first few days with us, Charlie wouldn't eat, wouldn't go outside, and refused to move unless you physically picked him up and moved him yourself.
Doors slamming shut and deep male voices sent him into trembles.
He didn't even bark for almost a good two months.
I feared the worse- that they had damaged his vocal chords as I had read that sometimes puppy mill owners will do when they want to keep their illegal dog population a secret from neighbors and the authorities.
But one day a knock came at the door... and then a bark.
A bark.
It was truly a relief to hear that.
From that moment on, Charlie began to warm up to us. :)
Carina was the next addition to our family, and Charlie is amazing with her.
He has become the best dog for our family.
And now sometimes I have to wonder just who saved who... ;)
Starting our Charlie on the Purina One 28 Day Challenge was pretty much a no-brainer for me.
Charlie has never really been a fan of actual dog food, opting to sneak bites out of our cats' bowls instead. It has been a struggle to find a brand of dog food that he will actually eat.
But that all changed when I introduced him to the Purina One Smartblend dog food. :)
Not only does Charlie love the taste of Purina One Smartblend, but we have noticed such an improvement in him over the past month...
A shinier coat.
More energy.
Brighter eyes.
Oh, and our supply of cat food is lasting a little longer nowadays. ;)
