Sneak extra leafy greens and healthy fruit into your daily diet with a creamy, low fat green smoothie that tastes just like one of your favorite baked treats...
I have a sweet tooth. There is no question about that.
And sweets have always been my weakness when it comes to healthy snacking.
So, I went on a mission to create a few smoothie recipes that taste like some of my favorite sweet treats.
The idea for this Oatmeal "Raisin" Cookie Green Smoothie came to me after I had tried a sip of my daughter's prune juice. The first thing that came to mind was how much it tasted like raisins to me. Hmmmmm... raisins. How could I use this prune juice in a green smoothie?
Honestly, I am not a huge fan of raisins, but I do like a good oatmeal raisin cookie... so the wheels started spinning and this Oatmeal "Raisin" Cookie Green Smoothie was concocted and taste-tested.
And yum! :)
Don't let the green hue fool you. This smoothie tastes nothing at all like spinach! It is sweet, creamy, has that baked cookie taste from the toasted oats, and the prune juice perfectly recreated the raisin flavor...
Oatmeal "Raisin" Cookie Green Smoothie
by
Prep Time: 6-8 minutes
Cook Time: None
Yield: 1 smoothie
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup almond milk
- 1 1/2 tbsp prune juice
- large handful of spinach leaves (or kale)
- 1/2 frozen banana, chopped
- 2 tbsp of toasted oats (click here for the super easy recipe)
- few sprinkles of cinnamon
- 1 tsp brown sugar
- 1/2 cup nonfat or low fat vanilla yogurt (use Greek for added protein)
Instructions
Add all ingredients to your blender and blend until smooth and creamy. Pour into a cup or pop a straw into your blender cup.
Enjoy!
**Tip- If you do not have a high powered blender, you can first blend the spinach with the almond milk and prune juice until the spinach leaves are completely blended in. This will ensure that you do not get any little pieces of leafy greens in your green smoothie. :)

Even if you despise leafy greens, you will love this smoothie! In fact, green smoothies are the perfect smoothies for people who loathe their veggies- kiddos and adults alike. ;)
I make a green smoothie almost every afternoon as a healthy snack, and my 2 year old daughter always shares it with me. She loves them, and I feel good knowing that both her and I are getting some added nutrients from fresh fruit and leafy greens every day.
