Hello, my name is Carrie.... and I am not a huge fan of long bubble baths.
Gasp.
I know, I know... what is wrong with me, right?
I have tried so many times to embrace the widely cherished hot bath that so many women (and men... ahem) LOVE.
I have lit a candle. Bought aromatherapy bubble baths and bombs that smell delicious or relaxing. Put on music.
Slipped in ready for a long soak.
And less than 10 minutes later, I am ready to get out.
I think I usually spend more time getting the bath ready than I actually spend in said bath.
Honestly, give me a good long hot shower, and I am a MUCH happier woman.
But I still want the whole aromatherapy thing that a hot, steamy bath gives you.
When I saw this tutorial for aromatherapy vapor shower disks on Peacoats & Plaid, I knew I had to give it a shot. :)
I ended up LOVING them!
The disks themselves are just 2 simple ingredients, and you can easily customize them with your favorite essential oils.
I used Lavender essential oil & vanilla extract in half of my batch, and Lemongrass & Geranium in the other half.
One batch for relaxation (the lavender) and one for invigoration (lemongrass).
DIY Aromatherapy Shower Disks
by
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes
Ingredients (10 shower disks)
- 2 1/2 cups of baking soda
- 1/2 cup water
- muffin liners
- your favorite essential oils (you will need about 10 drops total per disk)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Line 10 cups of a muffin pan with muffin liners. Set aside.
In a small bowl, mix together the baking soda and water to form a putty. Evenly divide the baking soda mixture into the lined muffin cups. I filled mine a little more than half full.
Bake for 20 minutes.
Allow to cool completely and then drop about 10 drops of your favorite essential oils onto each disk.
For the Lavender-Vanilla disks, I did 6 drops of lavender essential oil and 4 small drops of vanilla extract. (The vanilla will leave the disk a brown color where dropped. Not pretty, but it smells good!)
For the Lemongrass-Geranium, I did 5 drops of each.
I would recommend immediately peeling off the muffin liners once the disks have cooled. I found the ones I left on and tried to use later stuck to the wrappers a little.
If you are going to store your disks or package them in glass jars, be sure to purchase wide-mouthed ones as these disks will not fit through the opening of a regular mason jar.
To use- drop one disk towards the center of your shower floor before starting the shower. Each disk should last 1-2 showers, depending on how long of a shower you take.
Enjoy!
